What Causes Soreness In The Fingers And Legs?

My granddaughter (12y/o) was just told she has type 1 diabetes. We thought she had a virus and she was having her monthly flow. Whe I got her to ER her sugar was 1146. Three weeks later she is still going up and down like a yo yo. The Doctor s keep telling us her Pancreas is still trying to work several hours a day. And during the night her pancreas is telling her other organs to dum, I quess liver. Her fingers are very sore, legs and belly from all the sticks and shots. She is getting tired. They have to awake her very night at 2 am and check levels. They are all getting tired. Is there no better way to find out what they can do about her pancreas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Your granddaughter is suffering from type1 DM which is insulin dependent. It occurs due to some problem in pancreas and damage caused to beta cells secreting insulin, resulting in insulin deficiency. So, proper insulin therapy is to be given. And radioactive isotopes scanning of pancreas or PET scan can be done to know the physiological capacity of the working pancreas.
