Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my name is tammy and ive been taking three psycotropic drugs for 6 months they are ondansetron hcl 4mg @ bedtime ; venlafaxine hcl er 150 mg @ bedtime; quetiapine fumarate 300 mg @ bedtime. for bi polar disorder type 2. im also taking tramadol hcl 50 mg every 6 hrs for my arthritic knees.and ibuprofen 800 mg prn and i often double up on the ibuprofen daily, for the past 3days my tonge in my mouth has been extremely sore where its uncomfortable to eat, is this the result from taking all of these meds or just the side effects of any one in particular?
Soreness in mouth and tongue can be due to the medication that you are taking for the bipolar disorder as these drugs can cause dry mouth that in turn cause inflammation inside mouth..
So my suggestion is to consult your Physician and discuss about your symptoms so that he can either change the dose of drugs to lower doses or can change to drugs with less side effects..
For now you can start gargling with specialised mouthwash like Magic mouthwash, suck ice pops and do cold water rinses.. Chew sugar free chewing gums and drink plenty of water.. Avoid spicy and acidic foods..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
