Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Soreness On The Left Side Of The Neck?
I have had a sore neck on my left side for a week now. I keep thinking I ll get a sore throat or something but there have been no other symptoms. Now it seems like the sore neck is spreading and getting a numbish? sensation. I m also very tired and got very little sleep last night so Maybe that is having an impact on the sensations I m feeling? Could I have an infection or something?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I would like to clarify whether you mean left side of your throat or left side of your neck. In the former case, start with steam inhalation and warm saline gargles four times a day. If symptoms persist or a new symptom develops, let us know for further treatment. In the latter case, there is probably a neuromuscular component like trapezitis or cervical spondylosis. In this situation, I would recommend a X-ray of cervical spine AP and lateral. Meanwhile, try hot fomentation (set temperature well below your maximum tolerable limit). And avoid looking downward.
