What Causes Sound From Knee Gristle While Climbing Stairs?
Hi On walking up the stairs my knee gristles and makes a noise on each step. I have also noticed if I bend my knee it also feels gristly. It quite often aches and I feel the need to click it by twisting my leg against the other. What would be your diagnosis? I am not in pain but it is becoming uncomfortable.
Clicking sounds are commonly heard in the knees due to meniscus tear. Treatment for a torn meniscus commonly includes rest, give rest to your legs. You can take pain relievers (Combiflam, one SOS after food). Physical therapy is effective. Get clinically examined by an orthopedist, get imaging tests done to rule out medical conditions like OA, RA and patellofemoral pain syndrome.
Your treating doctor may recommend surgery if required. In the meantime, take multivitamin supplements and vitamin E (Evion -400mg), once daily for 15-20 days. Take food rich in calcium, magnesium and protein. Stay well hydrated. Avoid addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
