What Causes Sound In Ears And Light Headedness After Taking Effexor?

Hello, I was on 225mg of Effexor for about a year. I was taking 3 tablets daily, dropped down to 2 tablets daily, then 2 every other day, then 1 every other day. This was gradual over about a month and a half. I lost my health insurance and cannot afford to pay full price. I did not experience feeling off for several days after the last pill. I do not feel depressed, but very light headed off and on with a whooshing sound in my ears. Could these problems start that long after stopping the drug? Or could it be due to something else? If it is from the drug, how long should it last? Thank you very much!

Hello,

It's not clear to me how long ago exactly that you stopped the Effexor, but if it was more than a few weeks, I would say it is very unlikely to be due to stopping the Effexor. Also, if you were to have withdrawal symptoms from stopping Effexor, they would typically last only a few weeks.

I would suspect some other cause for your symptoms, though it is not clear what it might be. I would make sure you are drinking enough fluids, and if it continues to persist for more than a few weeks, I would suggest seeing your doctor about it to check your blood and examine you for what might be causing it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
