I am experiencing sharp spasmodic pains in the area of my right armpit. this is the first time this has ever happened to me and it has been ongoing for about 5 minutes now. is this a sign of anything serious? it has now been about nine minutes and the spasms and the pain have stopped.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Repeated muscle spasms are usually either related to abnormal function of the nerves or muscles in a particular area.

In many persons, it is a temporary problem but if it is recurring, you may need to be assessed.

Some of the possible causes include trauma, dehydration, a side effect of medication, electrolyte disorder etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
