What Causes Spasmodic Pains In Epigastric Region After Heavy Meal?
Hi, may I answer your health queries2. After a heavy meal, a patient was rushed to the ER with severe spasmodic pains in her epigastric region that radiated to the right side of her rib cage. She indicated that the attack came on suddenly and her abdomen was found to be tender to the touch and somewhat rigid. What do you think is this patient’s problem and shy is her pain discontinuous (spasmodic). What are the treatment options and what might happen if the problem is not resolved? right now ? Please type your query here...
As per my clinical experience, the severe pain increased after a heavy meal indicates flare-up of a pre-existing subclinical condition which may be gastritis, duodenitis, ulcer, intestine perforation, pancreas problem or others. I recommend emergency x-ray abdomen standing with an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis for immediate diagnosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
