Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My thyroid is enlarged. One lobe is quadruple in size and the other is double in size. It is pressing against the trachea instead of outward. I have been struggling with tightness in my throat for at least 10 days. Initially, I thought it was a cold and would eventually drop into my chest. It hasn t. I have great difficulty talking as I quickly get the feeling like my throat is spasming. My doctor ordered a CT scan and put me on Claratin and Xantac. I don t have allergies or heartburn. My appointment is not for six days. Should I be concerned?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Enlarged thyroid may cause trachia compression leading to pressure sensation in the throat.
Possible causes for enlarged thyroid is thyroid nodule or Graves disease or multinodular goitre or malignancy etcetera. Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is.
You need to do thyroid ultrasound, t3, t4, TSH estimation, and biopsy. Please consult your endocrinologist who will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
