Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my big toenail (left foot) appears to be delaminating right on the middle of the nail. About half the thickness is gone in an area the size of a pencil eraser. It looks clean and normal otherwise. Is there a mineral deficiency that can cause this?
Brittle nails that crack frequently have been noted with iron deficiency and thyroid or kidney problems. Splitting nails or pitting of the nails themselves are both seen with psoriasis. Low levels of vitamin C, folic acid, and certain proteins in the diet are also known to cause nail splitting.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
Regards,
