Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Spontaneous Weakness In The Body While Laughing?
My 17 year old son is experiencing spontaneous weakness throughout his body 8-10 times a day. It began when he would laugh, now it happens at other times. In addition he complains he cannot move. His speech is mumbly at times also. These symptoms have developed in just the past 2 weeks and seem to be progressing. He does not lose consciousness. He is also more fatigued than usual.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Spontaneous muscular weakness after activities like laughing, inability to move etc are suggestive of muscular disorder. At the age of 17 years, it is unlikely to develop congenital muscle weakness. I suggest you to consult a musculoskeletal specialist for clinical assessment of muscles and nerve conduction study. The disorder appears to be muscle or nerve disorder. Management can be started once final diagnosis is made.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
