Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sporadic Dizziness Along With Breathing Disruption?
Good afternoon - I am a 48 year old female diagnosed with ITM in March of this year. Short segment lesion at C4-C5 level. Effect is left sided numbness and paresam edit from next down. I am very lucky as I am able to walk and use my left arm and hand. However, I continue to suffer from sporadic severe fatigue. Recent, I have had two episodes of incontinence. I am also experiencing dizziness, sporadic breathing disruption and spasticity in both hands. My question is - is this an expected course for ITM which I simply must deal with or is this presentation worthy of evaluation by a TIM specialist. I am under the care of a neurologist but seems with recurrence of symptoms or aggravation thereof, I am admitted to the hospital for 3 days with no different course of treatment. Thank you for you time and response. Kem
Based on the history you have shared, these symptoms can be due to neurological causes as well as metabolic causes so a detailed sensory and motor examination and cerebellar signs should be evaluated. Also sugar levels, serum electrolytes as well as thyroid profiles should also be sought. Rarely dizziness can be due to cardiac causes as EKG and echocardiogram may also be needed as well as abnormal heart rhythm should also be ruled out. Treatment would be based on the cause.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
