General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello,
Medina is a hormone inbuilt IUD & is active in preventing pregnancy for 5 years.
You have it in for 10 years. So it's no more helping you in contraception. The intermittent spotting after sex you have could be-
- Injury to cervix caused due to prolonged irritation by IUD leading to inflammation or erosion of the cervix
- Spotting due to possible pregnancy with threatened abortion.
Consult your gynecologist for proper examination &cause specific treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
