What Causes Spreading Rashes All Over The Body Of An Infant?

Hi, My 2 yr old toddler is having a rash that appears to be spreading. The appearance looks like mottled skin and is concentrated on her arms and legs. I first noticed it this morning, and since has spread to her bottom and her face. Her belly and back is clear. She has congestion and she has complained of being cold. She does not feel itchy or have a fever. She has not had any change in diet. The only new environmental condition she has been exposed to was a sandbox where the sand source was unknown. Any ideas? Should I be worried? Thanks! Katie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I have gone through thoroughly over your toddler issue. It is an allergen induced systemic reaction. Nothing serious at present but can be problematic if ignored. Suggestions for your toddler’s early recovery are:
• Avoid exposure to heat/dusty environment/sand/pollens
• Bathing with antiseptic soap, cool water (avoid hot bath) and gentle sponging no harsh rubbing
• Wear clean, cotton, and loose clothes
• Maintain hydration with plenty of liquids
Calamine lotion for local application 3 times a day
Benadryl syrup can help with antihistaminic effects
• Watch for fever, altered level of playfulness, more redness, itching, and pus discharge if any other systemic discomfort attend ER

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
