What Causes Spreading Red Patches And Prolongled Bleeding Post Miscarriage?

I had miscarried on November 17th, 2015. I am still bleeding quite a bit and only had 2 days that I wasn t since the 17th. I also had a red patch on my skin (almost oval shaped and about the size of a fingernail bed) it doesn t itch or hurt but it has multiplied. I went to the doctor and he said it has fungus in it when he took a skin sample but he does not know what it is. He gave me 4 yeast infection pills to take over the next 2 weeks. One is already in my system and they are still multiplying. They are on my scalp, back, stomach, breast. Any idea what it could be?

Hello,

Prolonged periods after miscarriage are commonly due to atonic uterus. It can also be due to retained tissue or remains of the placenta after miscarriage. You are suggested to get a pelvic examination done by a gynecologist & if required a USG (Uterus) done. You may need medications or urgent medical aid. Red patch can be due to fungus, contact dermatitis, ring worm, shingles, etc. Complete the course of medicine prescribed by your treating doctor.

If sexually active, get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. If tested positive you will need to take antibiotics or antivirals. You can take antihistamines for relieve & apply ointments like clotrimazole or calamine lotion locally in the area affected. However, get skin tests done to rule out scabies. Do not share toiletries or your clothes with anyone.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
