What Causes Stabbing Pain In Back With History Of Discectomy?

I have severe back pain and had back surgery in 2000 for a discktomy. The pain is not to my toes, but taking alieve for the inflamation I would rather not do on a continual basies. I wake up in the middle of the night with the stabbing back pain. Not sure if I should do exercises on my own or get an MRI to see if my disk has slipped or fractured again.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.

Thank you for the query.

You definitelly should have an MRI done. Surgery history makes you prone for spine dosc changes in the future. Even if the symptoms are much different this time.
You may even need another surgery.

Please consult orthopedist or neurosurgeon.

Regards.
