What Causes Stabbing Pain In Mid Right Side Of Buttocks After Sleep?

after sleeping for about 5-6 hours on my right side I get this stabbing pain going from my mid right buttocks up my back and it hurts to turn over so I get out of bed and have trouble walking for a few step could this be some sort of infection, or a kidney problem? It tends to hurt if I sit to long also.

Hello,

It seems that your right buttock muscle and nerves are getting too much compression due to sitting all day and then at night as you sleep also on that side.

If it would be infection, you would have generalized fatigue, malaise and probably fever. If it was a kidney problem, you would have complaint regarding urination and abdominal pain. Kidney pain is not felt in buttock. Instead, it is felt in lower abdomen or waist.

If you are in too much pain right now, taking Paracetamol 500 mg or Ibuprofen 400 mg or combination of Paracetamol 325 mg, Dicolfenac 50 mg and Chlorzoxazone 250 mg (Dan-MR or Hifenac-MR) twice a day for two to three days can help. By that time, you can switch over to sleeping on left side or flat. You can also do heat application on the buttock when you have time. Hot water bag or electric heating bag can help. Applying topical Diclofenac Gel or spray (Volini) can give you relief from symptoms, too.

If these applications do not give you any relief, then it is advisable to visit a pain clinic to rule out specific cause of the pain and its management.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthCareMagic. Take care.
