What Causes Stabbing Pain In The Lower Right Leg?

I have a stabbing pain in my lower right leg, under the calf, which feels like a bee sting. It occurred earlier this afternoon, while walking a short distance. I checked, and there is no mark which would indicate any form of insect bite, but the stinging pain has continued, intermittently, for no apparent reason. Any suggestions?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The stinging sensation may be neuralgia which is nerve related pain.

Nerve related pain/neuralgia may be stinging in nature. It can also be described as tingling, burning, sticking, sharp etc

It is due to abnormal function of the nerves and can be temporary or permanent.

Causes include : (1)trauma to the nerves supplying the area. This can occur in the back or along the path of the nerve
(2)diabetes
(3)abnormal levels of vitamin b6
(4)low levels of vitamin b12 or folate
(5)liver or kidney disease
(6)side effect of medication
(7)exposure to toxins
(8)abnormal levels of thyroid hormone

You can consider monitoring it, if the symptoms are not severe. If they are severe or worsening then you should see your doctor for assessment.
This would involve a complete history, examination and some investigations

Treatment would depend on the cause found

I hope this helps
