What Causes Stabbing Pain On The Right Side Of The Ribs?
Hi im 45 yrs of age and am experiencing pain in my right side just at the edge of my ribs from some times very sharp stabbing pain. This has been going on for 2 week s lost 10bls. Saw a Gi Dr and 2 scopes both normal. Becomes more painful after eating. Nausea, diarrhea. Also im having some pain and discomfort on left side to.

A pain that is on the right side of ribs with nausea and diarrhea I would first exclude the diagnosis of Gastro-esophageal Reflux disease which often mimicking a pain in the middle of the chest like a heart pain with nausea and bitter taste in mouth and weight loss. As your scope came normal it means there is nothing wrong with your esophagus or stomach.
Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease is because of the opened and relaxed state of the lower esophagal sphincters which causes the acid of the stomach to enter the esophagus and causes all these symptoms.
Diagnosis is made by the barometric study of the esophageal valves and 24-hour acid measurement. For now, I would prescribe you an antacid and a Proton Pump Inhibitor like omeprazole to reduce the acidity.
