What Causes Steady Loss Of Weight?

A year ago my doctor increased my dosage by about 30%..I am now taking 125mg. Since then I have been losing weight steadily and I don t like it. My best weight is about 155lb today I am lucky to make 140 which is just over my 1994 weight. I will see my doctor in about 2 weeks. I believe the dosage is too high.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You may be right, that the dosage of thyrox might have been increased, to some what high than actually needed. Due to this extra increased dose, the symptoms of hyperthyroidism might be there and hence loss in weight. Your desired dose may be somewhere between your previous dose and present dose. Hence, you need to see your doctor, about this, who may re-adjust your dose accordingly and may advise a fresh test for ascertaining your present thyroid hormone levels and prescribe the dose of thyrox accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
