What Causes Sternum Heaviness And Dyspnea In A Fibromyalgia Patient?
Hi! I am a 57 year old female with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and a peptic ulcer. Over the past week, I have noticed a very heavy feeling under the sternum and a bit of shortness of breath...possibly due from worry about the pressure. I am recently post menopausal and definitelygaining weight in the mid-section. Just had blood work done and all was great. I have been anxious lately with personal issues. Just wondering what you would advise. Thanks!
Based on the history you have shared, over use of pain killers or non steroidal anti inflammatory drug for fibromyalgia can cause stomach inflammation or gastritis. Sometimes the gastric reflux to food pipe may present this way however for such symptoms cardiac elements should be ruled out preferably by an EKG as well as echocardiogram. If both are unremarkable plan to get an endoscopy of upper gastrointestinal tract. Meanwhile antacids like omerperazole before meals alongside motility agents like domperidone may be helpful.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
