What Causes Sticking Out The Tongue After An Injury?

My father who is 87, fell and hit his head on the right side just in front of and above the ear. He has a bump about 1/2 high and 2 long. He says he is fine. His pupils are the same. His speech is fine. His tongue sticks out straight. He doesn t want to go to the ER. Opinions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Deviation of tongue from normal position indicates the possibility of a stroke or brain damage. He has to get a consultation with a neuro-physician at the earliest, get examined, get advised investigation and exclude these possibilities or start the treatment as advised.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
