Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been feeling pain in my feet lately. If feels like the muscles in my feet are as tight as a drum. My feet are stiff in the morning, loosen up during the day, and in the late afternoon and evening the pads hurt when I walk, especially without shoes. I don't think it is connected to the neuropathy in my feet I got from chemotherapy 6 years ago.
Hi, Thanks for contacting HCM. Tight feet, especially in the morning, commonly stems from abnormal biomechanics of how the tiny muscles of the feet work over the course of the day. The abnormal motion of the feet can cause the muscles to become sore or tight and since we tend to sleep with our feet in a relaxed position, going to a standing position will be too much of an initial stretch for them. It is a good idea to use inserts (orthotics) to control biomechanics of the feet in general. For decreased padding to the feet, there are accommodations that can be made on these inserts to take pressure off the prominent bones on the bottom of the feet. Also avoiding walking barefoot on hard surfaces will help with the thinned pads of the feet. I hope this answered your question. If you have any further questions, I am here to help. Thanks.
