What Causes Stiffness And Pain In The Neck After An Ear Infection?

I have been treated with fluid behind my right ear, and stiffness in my neck, I laid out of the gym now for two weeks but the pain is back in my neck and it hurts to turn my head, the pain is not only in my neck but my whole side of my head when I turn it. What could be wrong?

Hi,

From the history and symptoms it looks like that this might be due to muscle strain (particularly the levator scapulae muscle is susceptible to injury and it connects the cervical spines to shoulder), soft tissue sprains or a pinched nerve. A stiff neck and pain on turning the neck to one side is usually not a serious disease and most of the times, common causes of neck pain can be relieved by applying ice or heat to the painful area, keeping moving but avoiding the painful and jerky movements of neck, doing slow range of moving exercises like side to side, up and down, and ear to ear movements of neck.

However, some times neck pain may be due to some serious cause particularly, if it is accompanied by numbness or loss of strength in the arms or hands or a shooting pain in shoulder radiating down to arms. Also, if the pain is accompanied by fever, nausea, vomiting, fainting, irritability etc. In such condition you are advised to consult your doctor and getting the treatment accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
