What Causes Stiffness And Pain In The Neck?

Hi I have had a stiff neck for two days now and it seems to get worse when I lay down, it is going into the back of my head and on my right side. I have tried heat and ice it is still pretty painful. I am trying to avoid going in because I am currently in between medical insurance. I also noticed a bug bite on my right ear could this have caused it? I now have a low grade fever also. Thank you, Peggy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history it may be due to sprain in neck. It may be due to trauma, over exertion, difficult posture during sleep. You can take tablet diclofenac, apply diclofenac gel or ointment. Use hot water bag. Do regular physiotherapy after consultation. Kindly do X Ray neck after consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale
