What Causes Stiffness In The Body Of An Infant After Injury?

My grandson is 8 months old.whenever he falls a little while sitting or crawling and even if he gets hurt very little he becomes very stif and his voice does not come out and then we have to beat him hard on him a back o face and then after a few minutes he responses and then cries.his hands and legs become cold.please dr. Tell me what is the reason and how to solve this proble m.for a few minutes es everyone in the house are very scared..
