What Causes Stinging Sensation And Pain In Vagina During Intercourse?

Hi, I am 18 years old and have been sexually active for a year and a half with my 20 year old boyfriend, when we first started having sex, my vagina was fine, the sex just felt good, more recently though (we have been getting rougher) we have sex once but if we try again than I get a sharp pain in the bottom half of my vagina, sometimes I can just fight through it and it stops after a minute, but others it stings so much we stop within a few seconds...the pain has gotten worse and worse...the passed 2 times though he will stick just the head of his penis in and I start to bleed and get a stinging sensation....please help!

Hello,

Stinging sensation and pain in the vagina during intercourse is commonly indicative of infection (PID, cervicitis, vaginitis, etc), injury, vaginal dryness, dyspareunia, chemicals, irritants, douching, UTI, lack of sexual experience, etc. You are suggested to avoid sex for a couple of days. Get clinically examined by a gynecologist, get blood tests, culture tests, urinalysis, etc done.

You will be treated according to the diagnosis made. In the meantime, take plenty of water, apply vaginal moisturizers for relief. Wear loose fitting cotton clothes, avoid the use of chemical soaps or douches. avoid aggressive sexual acts, always use condoms, get aroused before penetrative sex. You may be recommended to get STD tests done to stay on the safer side.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
