What Causes Stinging Sensation In Toes Inspite Of Using Penlac For Fungal Infection?

I had fungal nail about a year ago. The doctor prescribed Penl;ac and it worked well. The fungal infection signs have gone away, but I get stinging sensation when I put my socks and shoes on for extended period of time. Could you please tell me how to take care of this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Stinging sensation in the toes is commonly due to nerve damage or pinched nerve between two bones. Neuroma can be relieved by warm, cool baths or showers. It helps to de-stress your feet reducing discomfort and pain. Rub the affected area with some pain relieving ointment or spray (volini). Take food rich in vitamin B6, B12 or supplements. Get nerve conduction tests and nerve biopsy if required done to rule out developing peripheral neuropathy.

If diabetic, control your blood glucose levels at all cost & avoid addictions if any. You can take anti inflammatory medicines, Acetaminophen or combiflam, one SOS when required. However you are suggested to get clinically examined by a podiatrist, in case you need cortisone injections, some shoe modification, orthotics or surgery.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
