What Causes Stomach Ache After Removal Of Stent From The Kidney?

My boyfriend had surgery on Thursday to remove a 6mm kidney stone. The doctor was able to reach it and crush it up. A stent was put in and she was told to wear it for two days. On the instruction it said to remove the stent on Saturday morning. He removed the stent this morning and he is in serve pain. He says this stomach is cramping terribly bad and it feels like someone is standing on his grown. Please advise what I should do. Should I take him to emergency room?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your friend who has undergone surgery to crush the urinary system stone followed by stent, severe pain in stomach on removal of sent.
The commonest causes I can think about for the pain in abdomen on removal of stent are as follows:
Impinging of stone fractions.
Striture.
Blood clot retention.
Urinary tract infection.
Colitis should be also watched for.
This can be diagnosed by the following:
Yes, take him to ER.
Will have tests of urine and blood.
Ultrasonography to see for any stone, enlargement of kidney.
The treatment will be as per the findings.
To take plenty of oral fluids.
Antispasmodic as needed.
All these things will help him for proper diagnosis and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
