Hi there,
I understand your frustration. Your symptoms do sound like
gastritis and
acid reflux, and the eradication of H. pylori was an appropriate step to help improve it. Unfortunately, getting rid of the H. pylori means just that - getting rid of the infection. It doesn't cure the acidity and inflammation, and it doesn't mean that you won't get gastritis or acid reflux again, although many people have improved symptoms afterwards.
It takes some time for the stomach and oesophagus to heal, and your doctor would probably have prescribed you a few weeks of acid suppresant therapy like
omeprazole. However, if you haven't improved after that, you might have to proceed with other investigations like an
upper endoscopy, where they put a camera into the stomach to have a look at the surface and see if there are any ulcers or growths.
Another investigation that could be useful is a barium swallow, which is an X-ray done while you are swallowing some liquid contrast, to look for a hiatal hernia. Hiatal
hernias tend to make you more likely to have acid reflux, and depending on severity, can be managed with medication or may require surgical correction.
Hope this helps, and all the best to you.
Regards,
Dr. Teh
