Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello! My husband experiences stomach pain during and prior to bowl movement. He describes it as a cramping feeling. It can be so severe that he breaks out into a sweat and his body shakes. His stool appears normal yet it takes him multiple trips to the bathroom before the job is done. Any advice?...
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your history about your husband is short and specific. Frequent visits to bathroom to pass motion, severe pain, and sweating during passing motion are all indicative of severe form of colitis and possible IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome. Hence I would advise your husband the following: Get the stool tests for 3 days so that any problem can be diagnosed and well treated. Also get an opinion of a Gastroenterologist, an appointment for Colonoscopy, CT scan of abdomen and relevant blood tests like thyroid function, diabetes and as required. All these will give proper diagnosis and if a specific cause is found he will be treated accordingly. If all the tests are normal then this is to be treated as a case of IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome and a control of stress and anxiety can help him a lot.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
