What Causes Stomach Ache And Nausea While Suffering From GERD?
my dad is 83 years old. he has had a light ran down his throat. they said he has GERD. he takes meds for it but is not getting much better, when he gets up in the morning he said his stomach hurts and feel s like he is going to throw up. He says he sleeps good. By lunch time he is feeling better. Then it starts all over again in the mornings. Any suggestions.

I have gone through history of your father and value your concerns. I presume he must be on some Antiacids and PPI like Pantoprazole Domperidone combination. As you have mentioned that he is not improving up to your expectations, I would like to suggest few things:
1. Being an elderly patient with upper gastrointestinal symptoms the most important thing is to rule out any serious disease which is possible by getting an Esophagogastroduodenoscopy done by a gastroenterologist along with USG abdomen
2. If these investigations turn out normal then he will need 24 hour ph study to establish or refute GERD.
3. Meanwhile I would advice lifestyle and dietary modification like small frequent meals, less fluid intake after evening, less fat and spices, leave a gap of 2-3 hours between dinner and going to bed.
