What Causes Stomach Pain, Vomiting And Diarrhea In A Child?

My 8 year old daughter came home from school with a stomach ache. She fell asleep right away and upon waking began vomiting. She has had 4 bouts of vomiting in the last 4 hours and diarrhea but no fever. I let her take one small sip of gatorade after waiting an hour and a half and it caused her to vomit immediately. Does this sound like food poisoning?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter is having symptoms of stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastroenteritis , food poisoning , irritable bowel syndrome , lactose intolerance , giardiasis or intestinal Ileus. Need not to worry. You should take plenty of fluids to rehydrate body. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order stool test , ultrasound , endoscopy along with that take history. Doctor may prescribe laxative , ornidazole or albendazole along with ranitidine. You should not lay down immediately after having food and go for light exercises. For now eat light and non spicy , avoid food like seafood and nuts. You should take antacid after every meal and keep your head elevated while lying down.
