Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Stomach Pain While Suffering From Liver Cirrhosis?
My husband was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis of unknown causes about 3-4 years ago. He has periodically been having stomach pains really bad but then it ll let up for a few weeks and then the pain comes again. Today he first mentioned his stomach hurting early afternoon and it is still hurting about 10 hours later. Is this something to be expected with cirrhosis or should we be concerned about something else possibly?
Some patients with cirrhosis do have abdominal pain especially when there is fluid collecting in the abdominal area.
On the other hand, examinations are needed to make sure of the cause. Your husband may need an abdominal ultrasound to rule out such fluid collection and make sure the pancreas and the gallbladder and kidneys are okay. He also may need an upper endoscopic exam to visualize the stomach inner layer and rule out gastritis or peptic ulcer disease.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
