Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Stomach Sickness And Breathlessness With History Of Lap Band Surgery?
My fiance has previously had lap band surgery, not for certain if had anything to do with anything. He feels sick to his stomach everytime after eating. His hands are trembling, is light headed and is experiencing shortness of breath. What could be going on?
- Lap band surgeries decrease the size of the stomach. In some people on consuming foods especially those that are high in complex sugars, fluids are drawn into the stomach causing a drop in blood pressure and a parasympathetic overstimulation. This would explain the trembling, light headedness and possibly the shortness of breath.
I would suggest he reassess his diet. Decrease the quantities of food and increase the frequency of eating. Avoid carbonated drinks. If this persists, he should contact his surgeon for further evaluation. I would also suggest he gets an ECG done to be safe.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
