What Causes Stool Odor In Body While On Stool Softeners?
One thing I am not sure u can help me. I am on some heavy duty pain medications and have to take stool softeners at night and in the morning. I do not know what is going on but I smell like I pooped in my pants but I have not, maybe you can tell me why I have this bad odor
Malabsorption, gastroenteritis or intestinal infection, food allergy and certain medications can cause foul smelling stools. Stool softeners can cause malabsorption of fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, K.
Diarrhoea can also occur with the use of the drug. Other conditions that can cause foul-smelling stools include chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, and short bowel syndrome.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
