What Causes Strong Urine Odor While Having Renal Cancer?
My husband is at end stage renal cancer, non- clear cell. The smell of the urine from his nephrostomy bag has become very strong. Why? is there anything I can do as a caregiver to change this for better quality of life.?He has been on several types of Therapy and we are now in Hospice. Is there nothing to do about this? what can we expect now with this smell becoming worse. Some times there is blood in urine but with lots of water it goes away. The nephrostomy is in the non cancerous kidney Thank you
Bad odor of urine can be due to infection. Infection can also occur if urine is present in the bag for a long time.
I suggest you get a urine culture, however, the urine sample should not be collected from the bag. The urine sample should be collected from the catheter.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
