What Causes Subcutaneous Edema?

Hi, I have been having swollen feet and legs for at least the last 6 months. I had an MRI which stated that I had subcutaneous adema. My question: I do not eat anything with salt, I do not salt my food, I don t like salty food, once my sodium blood test was low. No doctor of mine can tell me why I am having this problem. I called my cadiologist several months ago and he told me to take Lasix, which I have been doing. I am so very uncomfortable.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Subcutaneous oedema can be related to many medical conditions such as:
- Congestive heart failure
- Cirrhosis
- Kidney disease
- Weakness or damage to veins in your legs
You should consult your physician to evaluate every diagnosis through proper examination. Meanwhile, I suggest to continue using Lasix.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
