What Causes Sudden Anxiety And Shortness Of Breath Despite Taking Propranolol?
Hi, I have severe glossaphobia, I was prescribed propranolol by my doctor for stressful situations and it has been going well...I still have anxious thoughts before the speech but have always been okay until a few days ago when I felt anxious and running out of breath during speech....how could this happen just this once?i lol so smoke. Woukd I need a higher dose as I smoke...thank you
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Glossaphobia is anxiety seen while giving speech and it is related to social anxiety disorder. In most cases drugs like Propranolol or Atenolo help to reduce the severe symptoms of anxiety and result in relief. You have persisting anxious thoughts before speech, have feelings of anxiety and running out of breath etc. Smoking before speech aggravates these symptoms and decrease the effect of drug. So in my opinion you should stop smoking before any anxiety provoking situation. If possible quit smoking. Discuss with your doctor to increase the doses of drug or to add some other drug like low dose benzodiazepines which are found to be very helpful in such anxiety provoking situations.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
