What Causes Sudden Bleeding From The Lower Lip?

Good Afternoon, I previously attempted to submit this question, but believe there were technical difficulties. For background: I am a 60 y/o, Caucasian, female, living in San Diego, CA. The first occurrence of this sx was last night & now again just now. Last night (& just now) my lower lip started spontaneously bleeding-- on my lower lip in the middle, bleeding from a tiny red dot on my li--without any pain before or during the bleeding. There were no injuries & I was not even touching my lip. Last night I used a tissue & applied pressure for 15 minutes & it stopped bleeding completely. Just now, another spontaneous bleed started. So far, 15 minutes of pressure have not stopped the bleeding, which is fairly heavy/fast & not like a usual injury slower bleed. my questions: What may be the cause& what is recommended (home remedy or medical tx, if necessary). Please respond ASAP, as I,m stuck sitting with a tissue pressed to my lip. Thank you very much, Dawn B.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Spontaneous bleeding from lips is commonly caused by drying of lips due to dry climate and/or dehydration.
Other not so common causes are-
-Infection
-allergic reaction
-cancer (very rare)
-Injury
-Ulcer
I recommend using ice in the tissue to stop bleeding quickly. If this doesn't help stop the bleeding, I recommend going to the ER and getting it checked by a doctor.

Hope this answers your question, thank you.
