What Causes Sudden Blurred Vision?

Earlier today we were riding in a car and I loss some of my vision. It was not painful but I was reading signs when I realized I wasn t seeing all of the signs. For example: a sign that said oxford, I only say ox and bike trail I only read bike. I was only seeing the beginning of some words.
