What Causes Sudden Bouts Of Coughing Spells While Talking?
I have had a cough for many years which doesn t seem to have a cause anyone can find. My husband notices that I often get a coughing spell when I first begin to talk - like after meeting someone or to him after having been quiet for a while. He thinks that mucus draining from my sinus cavity builds up over the epiglottis which doesn t close tightly, thus allowing small amounts of fluid to seep through into the trachea. Is this a possibility?
* As per my clinical experience, the coughing bouts of sudden onset while talking may be related to:
- ligament laxity of upper airway passage
- undiagnosed psychiatric conditions or phobic episodes manifesting various way
- hyper secretion of salivary glands
- laxity of epiglottic sphicters
* However, an indirect laryngoscopy with an expert ENT specialist is must for the final diagnosis and cure accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
