What Causes Sudden Breathlessness And Low Blood Sugar?

Twice in the last week, when I have been outside working in the garden or cleaning out the car, I suddenly start having labored breathing and feel weak, like I need to sit down. My hands and legs feel shaky and I feel exhausted -- almost like I m having a low blood sugar attack but it seems different from that. I came in the house and thinking it might be low blood sugar, I had something to eat and then laid down. After awhile I feel better but still real tired. IS this a low blood sugar attack or could it be something else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If you are diabetic then it is possible that it is related to low blood sugar if are using medication that causes hypoglycemia and not eating enough to cover it. It is also possible that it is related to excess fluid loss or heat exhaustion. If you feel fatigued consistently then you may need assessment of your blood count and thyroid function tests as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
