All of a sudden I am light headed, dizzy and off balance. I went to my car and returned to the garage about 30 minutes ago to see if it would go away. Have been feeling very tired lately, but this light headedness and out of balance feeling is troubling. I almost felt like going to the ER. Never have had this sensation before. 72 year old male. I have been gaining weight. Just got back from a 1 mile walk. ??
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, the neurological, cardiac and metabolic causes need to be ruled out but Initially blood pressure monitoring as well pulse and blood sugars may be reviewed followed by EKG and holter if needed. If these are normal, serum electrolytes and thyroid functions may be needed along with a detailed neurological examination by a neurologist. Possibility of ear related conditions like benign positional vertigo should be ruled out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
