What Causes Sudden Dizziness In An Elderly Person?

While driving on Sunday, I fainted very briefly and amazingly found myself off the shoulder of a two lane road. I immediately rolled down all windows and turned ac to cold . I realized I could not drive farther and stopped at a motel in mid afternoon. I was alone. I immediately fell asleep and awakened 3 hours later. I walked to a restaurant and ordered a hamburger. I have been extremely tired lately--I am 74. My yearly physical is in two weeks and I had the blood draw orders so on Tuesday I had blood drawn. I sought a copy of the results and all tests blood work is normal. I must admit I have pounding in the back of my head on occasion. Your thoughts please?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Headache in an elderly person on the move in a car, driving and getting fainted very briefly, rested in a motel but still weak, blood tests being normal.
My most probable thought would be hypertension with exhaustion, may be viral infection that has no fever but gives lots of weakness. The blood tests would be normal.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Take further rest if you are alone, do not drive.
Call for help from family or friends.
Try to see a Doctor in nearby clinic or ER for physical check up and take prescription based medicines.
I hope this should help you so that you can reach home safely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
