Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My name is Paul. Im 44 somewhat healthy. Im a mechanic, was at work today and sitting in the drivers seat of a car. I leaned backwards looking up at the ceiling of the vehicle and when I got out it felt like I was drunk or stoned. The room moved as though it was rubber and lasted about ten minutes. I had a head injury in 2008 and it feels the same as that again only worse. I spent 8 weeks in hospital, couldnt work, drive, or do anything for at least 8 months. Improper healing was possibly to blame as I lived in Greece at the time and didnt get any specialist to help me. I thought at first it may be an ear infection as my sinuses are burning up.
Both the possibilities cannot be neglected - head injury or sinus infection. Past head injury might left unresolved scars or other abnormalities in cerebellum which now causing dizziness/vertigo.
Second possible reason is Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) in which inner ear canal is sending vertigo signals because of change in position of vestibular canal.
It is benign condition which requires only exercise like epley's maneuver and other eye exercise which will be suggested by ENT specialist.
So, first consult neurophysician to rule out the causes related to brain. If it comes negative, then consult an ENT surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara
