What Causes Sudden Drop In Blood Platelets While On Codeine And Antibiotics?

hi i am 45 years of age and have currently had 2 surgerys in the last 6 months i have now been refered to a oncologyst as my blood platelets have dropped to 85, i have been taken several codeine priducts and antibiots would this be the reason, other than that i am fit

Hi. there are certain antibiotics which could cause low platelets . So at your stage since you dont have any other complaints , i would suggest you to repeat your platelet test after 3 days . Avoid NSAIDs ( like diclofenac, naproxen, Aspirin). Low platelets could be due to other reasons like vitamin b12/folate deficiency, certain infections, ITP, TTP. If repeat platelet counts comes low we should investigate further.
