What Causes Sudden Fainting?

Asking about my husband, he said he needed to lay down and he pointed both hands at me and his eyes rolled back and he was unaware of anything happening.i called his name several times and he came around...said I really need to lay down.....should I had called someone...he seemed fine after .did not remember what happened. This has never happened before.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your husband could be feeling faint for a number of reasons such as hypoglycemia, wherein his blood sugars are low. In this case, evaluate you husband for diabetes, or if he's under treatment with insulin then you may need to correct his dosage. It could also be a case of hypotension, if he's feeling dehydrated or suffered any recent blood loss.

He could also be suffering from Addisons disease but this is less likely due to absence of any other symptoms.

Your husband's heart should also be evaluated as well as an imaging for the Brain (EEG) should be done to rule out any neurological causes such as an absence seizure (wherein a person suddenly stops moving which may or may not be associated with seizure type of rapid movements followed by a loss of consciousness).

My recommendation is to take him to the nearest hospital and get him checked ASAP.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ankit Gopinath
