What Causes Sudden Heaviness In The Chest And Breathlessness?

At about 2am I felt a sudden heaviness on my chest and I could not breathe. I woke up and sat up and used the bathroom. I tried to lay down but it was worse. After about 20 minutes I could lay down again. However the heaviness is still there and it s painful to take deep breaths. Should I be concerned?
