Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sudden Itching Or Tingling In The Front Of Legs?
I have been experiencing a sudden itch or tingling on the front of my leg(s). It can hit from mid-way from my knee to the ankle. When this happens it feels like it is an itch from inside and I find myself digging with my fingernails or a dry wash cloth to try to satisfy the itch. It s like I feel like the more sore it gets from scratching that it helps. I have used ice to control the itch when I am awake but when I am sleeping it wakes me up digging and scratching. After the itch leaves in several days I end up with big ugly scabs from where I have broken the skin from scratching and digging at it.
Sudden itching and tingling in the front of the legs is commonly due to skin allergy, rash, infection or eczema. But other medical conditions that may cause similar symptoms are nerve issues, peripheral neuropathy, nostalgia paresthtica, hypothyroidism, etc.
Do not scratch, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP or a Neurologist. Get all nerve conduction and imaging tests done. If required get biopsy done. Get treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
