What Causes Sudden Itchy Red Rashes Around The Upper Arm And Shoulder Area?
Mdaughter is caring for an 11 yr old girl who has developed a very very red striated rash on her upper arm. It started yesterday as a nickel sized red spot on her upper arm near shoulder. It is not itchy and now has spread both up to top of shoulder and down to forearm. It is very striated as if scratched but no broken skin. Is there anything you can tell us about this strange rash. No one seems to be able to give a plausible answer but we are concerned.
Hi. As per your case history your daughter is having allergic dermatitis. My treatment advice is - 1. Avoid using any new products like soap or perfume. 2. Apply a mild topical steroid cream like mometasone cream on the lesions twice daily. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
